ARTIST’S STATEMENT
PAT DAHLBERG
When I think of painting, I think of the Fauves’ delicious colors: warm, happy, feeling good, singing floors. The Fauves were called the “Wild Beasts” by a French art critic in the early 20th century. These artists loved color. They broke away from the traditional artistic norms of the times. Matisse, Vlaminck, Derain were among them.
Some of the twentieth century international artists whom I find exciting and inspirational: Kandinsky, Matisse, Milton Avery, Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, and Wolfe Kahn.
Colors set the tone, the emotion of the painting. Music—the rich sounds of classical music, or the fast tempos of jazz guide may paint brush over and around the surface, setting u rhythmical patterns of line and shape. My intuitive, non-objective paintings always have had the same goal: rich, harmonious, delightful, perception of life. Painting is building a tapestry of joy!
My goal is to create a sense of harmony, delight and playfulness. I also want to offer a quiet, joyful and reflective moment for the observer of this art.
In addition to showing with the Oakland Art Association, my work I s presently shown at the Marin Society of Artists, 30 Sir Frances Drake Blvd., Ross, CA, 415-454-9561; the Valley Art Gallery, 1661 Botelho Drive, Walnut Creek, CA, 925-935-4311; and The Lesa Johnson Gallery, 1041 Stuart Street,
Lafayette, CA, 925-962-0980.
